Welcome to the Global Ocean thematic portal

Operator: Mercator Ocean, France

The Mersea Global system is a living system growing in complexity from a low global resolution (2°) assimilating only altimetry data to reach a high resolution (1/12°) system assimilating in situ data and nested to a biogeochemical model (see Mersea systems versions).

The present operational Global systems on 1st October 2005 (Mersea V1) are the Global 1/4° prototype, assimilating altimetry data, and the Global 1/12° demonstrator on North Atlantic assimilating altimetry and in situ data.

They are run on a weekly basis with 2-weeks forecast. The physical model is based on the OPA software and the assimilation is made using a reduced order optimal interpolation (ROOI) scheme.

    Configurations Main characteristics
PSY3V2 Global 1/4°, eddy permitting, multivariate data assimilation
PSY2V2 1/15° eddy resolving demonstrator on North Atlantic, with altimetry and in situ data assimilation
